A signature campaign has begun at Change.org, and with the demand that a fair trial be held for well-known Istanbul Armenian writer, linguist, journalist, and columnist Sevan Nișanyan, who is serving a prison sentence in Turkey.
The organizers of this signature campaign demand that if a state does not or cannot fulfill its obligations, the state—and not the individual—shall be brought to account. Furthermore, as per the signature campaign, the individual shall not be penalized in such conditions.
In addition, the signature campaign demands that Nișanyan be given the opportunity to be engaged in creative work while in prison.
He was sentenced to 11 years and 6 months for carrying out illegal construction.
To note, Sevan Nișanyan has constantly raised the Armenian Genocide issue in Turkey, and stood out by his fearless demeanor in this country.
