YEREVAN. - Assigning Levon Yolyan and Hovhannes Hovsepyan to the posts of Energy Minister and State Revenue Committee (SRC) respectively was exclusively linked to their professional capacities.
National Assembly (NA) Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also Spokesperson of the Ruling Republican Party (RPA) of Armenia, told the aforementioned to the journalists after the RPA Supreme Council session.
To the question on whether assigning those persons to such high posts was a reward for the work carried out in “Yes” headquarters in the run-up to the Constitutional Referendum, Sharmazanov disagreed.
“It’s not the first time they have been involved in the presidential campaign headquarters as key figures. Their assignment is exclusively related to their professional capacities,” he said.
To the remark that both Yolyan and Hovsepyan got large income, Sharmazanov responded: “The Ethics Committee serves this end, and Mr Yolyan has presented the legality of his income sources.”
The RPA spokesperson noted that inter-party and inter-political issues had been discussed at the RPA Supreme Body session. Reference was also made to the Electoral Code and the debate around it in the NA. In Sharmazanov’s words, the subsequent RPA congress will be held in fall.
