YEREVAN. – Co-rapporteurs from the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) of the Council of Europe, and representatives from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) will arrive in Armenia in mid-March.

The OSCE Office in Yerevan informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that they are coming to Armenia to discuss the preliminary version of the new Electoral Code of the country. 

Bilateral talks on the draft Electoral Code will be conducted between March 14 and 17.

The preliminary version of the new Electoral Code has been sent to the Venice Commission. Even though the latter has not yet expressed its respective position, the Armenian government has publicized this draft law.

The draft Electoral Code was approved at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, and it is expected to be submitted to Parliament on March 9 or 10.

Pursuant to this draft law, parliamentary elections will be single and nationwide in Armenia, and they will be conducted solely with proportional representation—i.e. political party lists.

The new Electoral Code of the country shall be adopted by June 1.
