YEREVAN. - In the coming one or one and a half year, either restructuring or “elite revolution” will be observed in Armenia, that is the elite composition will be changed.

Political analysts Alexander Iskandaryan, who is also the director of the Caucasus Institute, told the aforementioned at a press-conference today.

According to him, this process was launched in 2010-2011, when serious changes took place in the Armenian elite.

“[But] Later with the coming of Hovik Abrahamyan, this process was to a certain extent stalled. And now it can be considered as a new process, or continuation of the old one.  The Republicans took into their hands all the serious political leverages in the country: there is no serious opposition against them. The controversies enter the ruling party,” Iskandaryan noted.  

Secondly, the political analyst continued, an attempt is made to alienate oligarchs from politics. “This doesn’t mean that the oligarchy will cease its existence as such. But the movement, which I would call bureaucratic, wins in politics. These are the people, whom [President] Serzh Sargsyan brings to politics. These people are more of bureaucratic positioning than business.  It’s clear why this is happening right now: Serzh Sargsyan’s hands are tied. Transition is made to a more personalized model of power. Preparations are underway for his leave: elections will be held and Serzh Sargsyan will cease to be the president,” Alexander Iskandaryan added.
