YEREVAN. – More than 50 percent of Armenia’s agricultural workers are women, and they are engaged in all sectors of this domain.
The Minister of Agriculture, Sergo Karapetyan, noted the above-said at Monday’s 2016 Female Food Hero national awards.
The Ministry of Agriculture informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the event was organized by the ministry and Oxfam (Oxford Committee for Famine Relief) Armenia, and within the framework of the European Union-funded “Improving Regional Food Security in South Caucasus through National Strategies and Smallholder Production” project.
“In my view, the high taste and qualitative aspects of our [Armenian] domestic agricultural products are especially due to their [i.e. Armenian women’s] caring work,” Karapetyan said.
Also, the minister stressed the importance of women’s cooperative farms in Armenia.
The said awards ceremony is held within the framework of International Women’s Day, and to mark women’s role and achievements in agricultural production and food safety.
