Georgia and Iran want to diversify ways of power supply, Iranian Studies specialist Gohar Iskandaryan stated today at the discussion on Armenian-Iranian economic relations.

Touching on the new agreement between Georgia and Azerbaijan on increasing the volumes of gas supply and the probable withdrawal from the agenda of the item concerning using Armenia as a transit gas corridor, Iskandaryan said:  “If this happens, it means we have once again missed our opportunity. However, the gas pipeline is owned by Gazprom, thus not much depends on us here. That is, decision on this matter must be taken by Gazprom.”

On March 4, Georgia and the Azerbaijani SOCAR company signed an agreement in Tbilisi, under which the Azerbaijani side shall increase the natural gas supplies to Georgia by 500 mln cu m and reduce the social and commercial gas prices.
