Environmentalist Silva Adamyan is alarming that a lion in Armenia’s Urtsadzor Animal Rehabilitation Center has recently torn a man to pieces.

“We have no precise information on when this happened and who the victim is; we have learned this from third and fourth persons. But I’m almost sure this kind of incident has happened. The Ministry of Nature Protection has also received such an alarm,” the environmentalist told Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.

Silva Adamyan blames the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) for the incident, since it is the one which funds the Urtsadzor Animal Rehabilitation Center.

“We think the incident happened due to the bad conditions at the Center. The odd thing is that we have repeatedly asked that organization to publicize in what conditions the animals live, but they refused. However, they were obliged to do this since they had taken the responsibility for the transportation and care of the animals at international and national levels, getting corresponding means from very well-known international animal protection organization,” the environmentalist noted.

Nevertheless, the police representatives told Armenian News – NEWS.am they have received no such information.

On February 10, three lions from Armenia’s Gyumri mini-zoo were moved to Urtsadzor Animal Rehabilitation Center.
