GYUMRI. – A newborn baby died Saturday in Gyumri, the second largest city of Armenia.

The child was born via C-section at Gyumri Maternity Hospital, whereupon the baby was transferred to Austrian Children’s Hospital in the city, and the newborn died there, Gyumri Maternity Hospital Director Vardan Sargsyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He noted that the maternity hospital does not have an artificial respiration apparatus intended for newborns, and since the child was born with complications and the baby’s condition had grown worse, the newborn was transferred to Austrian Children’s Hospital.

“[The child’s health] worsened at night,” Sargsyan said. “And the nurse thought that it would be better [that the baby] remained under [artificial respiration] apparatus supervision, and they transferred [the newborn].”
