YEREVAN. - Armenian and Iranian freight forwarders will experimentally send two cargo containers from Iran to Europe in near future, Armenian Transport and Communication Deputy Minister Artur Araqelyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.
According to him, the agreement on this was reached at the meeting held with Armenian Transport and Communication Minister Gagik Beglaryan during the latter’s working visit to Iran in late January.
Following this trial delivery, the Iranian and Armenian businesses will know in which conditions cargo can be transported from Iran to Europe via Armenia in the fastest and most beneficial way.
“Currently, Armenian and Iranian transporters are in the final organizational stage. These two containers will soon be sent,” Araqelyan said.
To strengthen the transit corridor in Armenia, concrete North-South motorway is constructed, there also being plans regarding Iran-Armenia railway. The construction of the motorway will be completed in 2020. It hasn’t yet been decided when the construction of the railway will be launched, but according to the feasibility study it will require six years.
