YEREVAN. – The Minister of Agriculture of Armenia, Sergo Karapetyan, on Wednesday received governor Mohammadali Najafi of Gilan Province of Iran.

“Armenia-Iran relations in the agriculture sector are at a high level,” Karapetyan noted. “However, the entire potential of cooperation between the two countries is still not used in full.”

The minister stressed that Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the lifting of international sanctions on Iran have created favorable conditions for deepening and expanding bilateral ties.

Najafi, for his part, stressed that the agriculture of Gilan Province especially features high quality rice, tea, olive, and fishery. He expressed a conviction that Armenia can serve as a suitable platform for organizing these exports to the EAEU.

Also, the Iranian provincial governor proposed to create a joint working group in the agrarian sector. Sergo Karapetyan, in turn, welcomed this proposal, and expressed a conviction that the ties between Gilan Province of Iran and the Ministry of Agriculture of Armenia will be productive.
