STEPANAKERT. – Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) President Bako Sahakyan’s position on constitutional reforms in the country is not yet known.
NKR Presidential Spokesperson Davit Babayan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the respective discussions are still in progress.
“The parliamentary factions of Artsakh had petitioned to the President suggesting the setting up of a Specialized Commission on Constitutional Reforms,” Babayan said. “The petition is still in the discussion phase.”
The NKR parliamentary factions had petitioned Sahakyan on February 23.
One of the initiators is the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party, which proposes to make a transition to a parliamentary model of governance in Artsakh.
Stepanakert, however, has not yet expressed any position on this system of governance.
In July 2017, presidential elections are slated in the NKR.
