YEREVAN. – At the initiative of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia, World Poetry Day, which is observed on every March 21, will be celebrated in the country with a great display.
The Ministry informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that numerous respective events will be held on that day, in capital city Yerevan and the provinces of Armenia.
In addition, Armenian writers, literary critics, and persons of culture and arts will read poetry on that day.
World Poetry Day was declared by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1999.
The purpose of the day is to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world and, as the UNESCO session declaring the day says, to “give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional and international poetry movements.”
