The historic Gomk Monastery and the Armenian cemetery located in Sason region of Turkey’s Batman province will from now on be included in Meşeli village instead of Çayırlı village, Akunq.net reports, citing the information published in Batman newspaper.

According to the source, the investigation into the case filed by the local Armenians over the registration of the Gomk Monastery in Çayırlı village, has been completed. Pursuant to the court judgment, Gomk Monastery and the Armenian cemetery are again included in Meşeli village of Sason region.

The case was opened in 2007 by the Union of Social Solidarity and Culture for Bitlis, Batman, Van, Mush and Sasun Armenians. “The monastery and the cemetery are now included in Meşeli village. And this is right,” the Union President, Aziz Dagcı, told in an interview with the newspaper.

The local Armenians also wish “at least a symbolic liturgy to be served” in this historic monastery.
