YEREVAN. – If the reduction in Armenia’s natural gas prices will be to a considerable extent, it definitely will affect the price of electricity, too, economist and former MP Vardan Bostanjyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He noted this reflecting on Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan’s recent statement on the likelihood of a reduction in the price of Russian natural gas being supplied to Armenia. 

“But if we were to have a slight reduction at the supply point, this slight point can’t have an impact on electricity production,” Bostanjyan added. “We [i.e. Armenia] have a low level and additional difficulties in terms of revenues. But as a result of the reduction, the expenditures will get smaller, [and] there will be additional financial resources.”

The economist stressed, however, that the promised reduction in the gas prices needs to have a direct impact on the consumers in Armenia.

“It’s not important how much Russia is reducing the price,” Vardan Bostanjyan noted. “[What’s] important [is] to what extent the consumer [in Armenia] will benefit from it.”
