YEREVAN. – Azerbaijan’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) cannot be ruled out, ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP Manvel Badeyan said at a press conference on Tuesday.

In his words, the Iran-Azerbaijan-Russia railway construction also cannot be excluded.

“The Iranian side is the least interested in it,” Badeyan added. “The Georgia factor plays a significant role here.”

The deputy stated that the Armenian side is trying to conduct negotiations with the Iranian side and offer it more guarantees than Azerbaijan.

But chairman of the opposition Christian-Democratic Revival Party, Sos Gimishyan, argued that there will be no Iran-Azerbaijan-Russia railway.

“Azerbaijan is the doer of the objectives of Turkey,” he stressed. “Railway construction means assisting Azerbaijan, whereas Russia will not agree to that. Iran also will not do that, since there is a problem in northern Iran with the [local] Azerbaijani population. The geopolitical interests are [more] important here than the economic [interests].”

Gimishyan added that even though Russia aims to include Azerbaijan in the EAEU, this is out of the question.

The EAEU comprises Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
