YEREVAN. - The consideration of the draft Electoral Code of Armenian at the plenary session of the National Assembly (NA) can be postponed until next week.

Chairman of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs, Hovhannes Sahakyan, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.

Touching on the issue that the Venice Commission has not yet presented its conclusion on the draft Electoral Code, Sahakyan said that the consideration of the document mainly depends on the course of discussions in different formats, as well as the summing up of the results of different proposals made in the working group.

“For instance, during the parliamentary debate held on March 18, we received quite a lot of valuable proposals, which we are discussing. Now we must try to implement them to the fullest. If we don’t manage to discuss at least 50 percent of the proposals before the session of the Committee on State and Legal Affairs on Friday, April 1, we may put off the introduction of the draft Electoral Code to next week,” Sahakyan noted.  Of course, the conclusion of the Venice Commission is also very important for organizing these discussions, the MP added.

The draft Electoral Code was scheduled to be discussed at the parliament during the subsequent four-day session on April 4-7. If it is postponed for a week, the National Assembly (NA) will have to convene an extraordinary session.
