YEREVAN. – There can be no word about any new “unilateral truce” because the ceasefire which Azerbaijan signed in 1994 is in force, and Azerbaijan shall follow the letter and spirit of that document,  not as a gesture of goodwill, but as an international commitment.

President Serzh Sargsyan on Monday stated the aforesaid at his meeting—at the Office of the President—with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) member countries’ ambassadors to Armenia.

In his words, one of Azerbaijan’s most recent brazen demeanors was the Azerbaijani defense ministry statement that, allegedly, the country is unilaterally terminating it military actions in response and starting strengthening the defense of “liberated territories.”

“I assure you that the Azerbaijanis have not ‘liberated’ any territory,” Sargsyan noted. “With this, Azerbaijan again misleads the international community and attempts to create prerequisites for concealing the military actions it has unleashed and their further continuation.”

In his words, Azerbaijan needs to speak directly with the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities.

“If there is will and desire to correct the situation, active steps need to be taken in this direction, and Azerbaijan needs to be obligated to respect the 1994 ceasefire regime,” Serzh Sargsyan added.
