Russia calls for confidence-building measures in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated.

Also, he noted that Russia will contribute to keeping track of the ceasefire in Karabakh, according to TASS news agency of Russia.

“We (…) launched all necessary measures to help the parties [to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict] to reach an agreement on ceasefire,” Lavrov noted. “We stand ready to contribute that the agreement is not violated. It is important to alleviate the situation and to actively engage in the political settlement [of this conflict].

“We have [respective] proposals. We try to work actively to achieve arrangements between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We hope to discuss all these matters today and tomorrow. We fully support all initiatives which the OSCE [i.e. the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe] Minsk Group Co-Chairs are undertaking. 

“It seems to me we will be able to [achieve success] with the OSCE’s help. It is very important to immediately undertake confidence measures, and to create preconditions for resuming the political process.”
