Iran has always called for peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said in Baku.

A ceasefire that is in place is a good opportunity and should be followed by negotiations to resolve outstanding issues, he said during a briefing with his Russian and Azerbaijani counterparts.

The Iranian official called to reach solution based on international law and UN charter principles.

The Minister added that he had called his Armenian counterpart and there had been discussions between Iranian defense minister with both defense ministers. In addition Iranian leader Hassan Rouhani called both presidents on Wednesday.

“We are happy that something of ceasefire is holding now and we hope it will be followed by serious discussions to reach comprehensive solution,” Zarif resumed.
