The 5th congress of the Party of Popular Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA) opened in Baku on September 25. The PPFA is actually a split of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan (PFA), which ruled the country in 1992-1993.

APA reports that PPFA Chairman and Head of the PPFA Organizing Committee Ali Kerimli said that 75 of the 80 PPFA regional chapters held conferences to prepare for the congress and sent 526 delegates.

Representatives of international institutions and foreign embassies, as well as leaders of political parties are attending the congress, which is to approve a list of the PPFA-Musavat bloc’s candidates in the next parliamentary elections in the country.

NEWS.am reminds readers that the PFA, which was holding mass rallies in Baku in January 1990, organized Armenian pogroms in the city on January 13-19. As a result, about 100 civilians were murdered, hundreds injured and hundreds of thousands forcibly displaced.
