President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has congratulated President of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), Berge Sedrakian, on the 110th anniversary of the organization, the Armenian President’s press-service reports.

The congratulatory message reads, in part:

“This powerful organization with glorious past, which continues to stay committed to the principles of its founders, deserves admiration.   

During its entire activity, the AGBU was and continues to ramain one of the main pillars of the Armenian identity preservation. The programs, which the Union implemented and keeps implementing in Armenia, Diaspora and Artsakh, clearly indicate this.

We celebrate this jubilee in face of new and difficult challenges: the developments round the Homeland and in the Diaspora have set new tasks before us. The recent aggression of Azerbaijan proves that we don’t have the right to lose our vigilance, and our unity is the only way to resist the encroachments on the security of our people. The AGBU has always followed this practice.”

Sargsyan expressed hope that the AGBU will implement initiatives for solving Armenian nationwide problems also in the future.
