NGO representatives have discussed draft amendments to the RA Law on Protection of Economic Competition.
The official website of the RA Commission for Protection of Economic Competition reports that Commission Chairman Artak Shaboyan said companies dominating the market because of legal loopholes can go unpunished through liquidation.
Specifically, in 2008, the Salex Group Company owned by the MP Samvel Aleksanyan, which carried out diverse business activities, committed numerous violations abusing its market dominance and thereby wound up avoiding penalties. A new company, Alex Group, was established later. The company practiced unfair competition as well. According to the bill, liquidation of large companies must be permitted by the Commission for Protection of Economic Competition.
The bill provides for severer punishment for unfair competition and wider control powers of the Commission.
