Azerbaijan is the only threat to regional security and Armenia should be ready for war,Richard Giragosian, Director of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS) told the reporters on Monday.
Commenting on the recent incidents in line of contact, the expert said that he is more concerned over possibility of a sudden war. “Without a decision. The reason is Azerbaijan is using military attacks as diplomacy. It is a wrong strategy, Georgia once did it as well,” he said, expressing confidence that Azerbaijan will lose if the war resumes.
He also stressed that presently international community and the OSCE Minsk Group are pressurizing Azerbaijan more than Armenia and Karabakh. The striking example thereof is Obama-Aliyev meeting and the statements maid by the U.S. President regarding political prisoners and other issues. “The good news is that the Minsk Group agreed to hold back from war,” he said.
As to Matthew Bryza’s appointment to the post of U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Giragosian stated that it is a challenge to the Azerbaijani government. U.S. wants to appoint a person familiar to the region for using stronger language with Azerbaijan.
