YEREVAN. - The Azerbaijani MFA disseminated another cynical announcement Thursday, where they turned the apparent facts upside down trying to put on Armenia the accountability for the military actions unleashed by them against Nagorno-Karabakh on April 2. Thereby Azerbaijan tries to avoid the accountability for the committed war crimes, the statement issued by the Armenian MFA reads.

“It’s not the first time Baku has been making useless efforts to distort the obvious reality. During communications, our international partners also state that it is exactly Azerbaijan which carried out large-scale offensive all along the Line of Contact with Nagorno-Karabakh, as a result of which hundreds of people have been killed and wounded, war crimes having been committed.

Armenia strongly criticizes Azerbaijan’s useless efforts to call into question the open-ended tripartite ceasefire agreement signed in May 1994 between Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, this being a dangerous step and threatening to further destabilize the situation in the region. The unleashing of aggressive military actions of Azerbaijan in early April results not in the termination of the ceasefire agreement, but calls for the accountability of the agreement violator.

All this shows that despite all the calls of the international community to continue the negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group, the genuine objective of Baku is to undermine the [conflict] settlement process. This is also proved by the fact that the long statement by Azerbaijan not only fails to somehow refer to the statements of the Karabakh conflict settlement by the heads of Minsk Group co-chairing countries, but also lacks any mention on the Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship, which is the only format having international mediation mandate.   

Azerbaijan is trying to present the talks as a process related to the discussion of issues of interest only to Baku.

Apparently, calls and urges are no longer sufficient for sobering up Baku. Specific steps are needed to call Azerbaijan to order and bring it to constructive field.”
