YEREVAN. - The political figures who said that the toughening of the proposals and assessments by Serzh Sargsyan could lead to the divergence of opinion between the Minsk Group Co-Chairs and Armenian side were wrong.

Armenian National Assembly (NA) Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov told the aforementioned to journalists Wednesday after the Executive Body meeting of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), referring to the statement issued earlier by the OSCE Minsk Group.

“The wording of the Co-Chairs’ statement, as well as the ideas included therein, are in line with the April theses advanced by the Armenian President regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement. The statement precisely mentioned the enhancement of confidence-building measures and inevitability to observe the ceasefire. The theses or the three proposals, which the republic’s President spoke of during the four-day war, were included in the Co-Chairs’ statement. The statement has been made: the Co-Chairs wished the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents to meet. The official position of the Armenian President on this meeting will be published in due time established by law,” he said.

Serzh Sargsyan earlier noted that the resumption of talks on Nagorno-Karabakh requires three steps: introduction of investigative mechanisms, targeted announcements and guarantees that Azerbaijan won’t repeat new aggression and terrorism against Karabakh people.
