Armenian Defense Ministry has carried out intense activities on strengthening of positions in Tavush region, bordering with Azerbaijan, for recent 2.5 years, RA Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said at a governmental session today.

“Jointly with the Tavush administration we have ensured security of settlements which are under direct fire of the opponent,” Ohanyan said, adding that there are twenty such settlements in the region, whereas five of them are in particular danger. He added that acts of sabotage by the opponent were prevented in the direction of Koti, village in Tavush region.

According to Ohanyan, residents of bordering villages repeatedly raise the issue on increase of civil defense level to ensure citizens’ security in case of possible aggression. “Taking into account possible aggression by Azerbaijan, as a result of which considerable part of the region may be under fire, we pay special attention to civil defense,” he stressed.
