Christie's has put on auction a blue diamond of a rare coloring. Magnificent Jewels auctions, during which the stone will be put under the hammer, will take place Wednesday, Kommersant reports.

The mentioned diamond, called "The Oppenheimer Blue", weighs 14,62 carats (almost three grams). Its main peculiarity is its rare fancy vivid coloring.  The average value of the diamond is between $38 to 45 million USD.

The stone got its name by its former owner, sir Philip Oppenheimer, whose family owned a share in the De Beers diamond mining company for 85 years. In 2011, they sold it for $5.1 billion.
