As the first anniversary of the Armenia-Turkey Protocols gets closer, the following question comes up: what has changed since then? The Turkish press headlines say about Armenian-Turkish process, its prospects and expectations. The forthcoming OSCE Heads of State Summit scheduled for December 1 in Astana is considered as an occasion to speak about the protocols. In particular, Turkish Sabah newspaper writes that event is of great significance for Armenia-Turkey rapprochement.

Talking to NEWS.am correspondent Aram Sargsyan, leader of Democratic Party, said that almost nothing has changed.

“Armenia just showed the world that it, unlike Turkey, has adopted constructive position and everyone understood that,” Sargsyan said. He also added that contrary to Aliyev’s and Erdogan’s dreams international community did not pressurize Armenia and adopted our stance. “Actually, we can say that Armenia won, as it managed to withdraw from the process on time,” Sargsyan considers.

As to the protocols, the politician said that he personally, and the Democratic Party on the whole, opposes ratification of the protocols as they are. “I think that relations should be established through diplomacy, but it is naïve to expect that Turkey will reject preconditions on December 1,” he added.

Aram Sargsyan recalled Turkish Foreign Minister’s words. Ahmet Davutoglu stated that he would be glad to speak with Yerevan and Baku, in case disagreements between the sides are settled. “Even if it is a regular show, the attempt is doomed to failure, as Turkey is not ready to put the preconditions aside,” Democratic Party leader concluded.
