YEREVAN. – There is a paradox in Armenia at first sight, after 2014.
Two years ago, retail trade started to drop in the country; that is, the local population began to spend less money on buying goods. But this refers to solely those whose remittances from abroad have significantly decreased.
It seems that such trends should have come to the fore also in the services sector, but the latter steadily increased. From January to April of the current year, retail trade in Armenia reduced by 4.6 percent, whereas the services increased by 9.3 percent.
The “culture, leisure, recreation” group of the services sector in the country has stood out by its high respective ratio of 20 percent.
The other group, which has contributed to the growth of the overall indicator in Armenia, is the transport services.
