Nagorno-Karabakh Republic National Assembly (NKR/Artsakh NA) member Vardges Baghryan does not share Russian Armenian political scientist Karine Gevorgyan’s prediction that another escalation in tension at the Karabakh conflict zone should be expected in August, when Azerbaijan will attempt to disrupt the gathering of harvest.

Commenting, at the request of Armenian News-NEWS.am, on this prediction, the NKR MP noted that he does not agree with such a forecast.

“Why in August, and not in July or September?” asked Baghryan. “I believe an escalation in tension can be expected at any moment, and be ready to resist any inroad.

“As for the collecting of harvest [in Artsakh], it has already begun in some areas (…). For that reason, I am not inclined to tie the tension with the collecting of harvest.

“The question is, when the adversary feels that it could achieve even a little success, it will resort to escalation [of tension].

“But one should never think that the adversary has come to terms with the [present-day] situation. It is rather in [a state of] euphoria, and it hopes the status quo will change in its favor.”
