YEREVAN. – Any destabilization of the situation, especially and armed conflict in the immediate vicinity of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) territory, is a threat to all members of this organization.
CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha stated the aforesaid at Wednesday’s joint news conference, in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, with newly appointed secretary Armen Gevorgyan of the National Security Council of Armenia.
“We don’t neglect such phenomena,” Bordyuzha said, responding to the query on the aggression which Azerbaijan had unleashed against Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), in early April.
At the same time, he highlighted the active role of Russia in the normalization of the situation and finding a solution. In Bordyuzha’s words, the respective activeness by the Russian president, prime minister, and defense minister was the action of an ally.
The CSTO secretary general recalled that this organization does not end with its secretariat, it represents six countries—including Armenia—, and moreover, political lever is the key factor of its influence.
“The role of CSTO should be viewed from this perspective,” said Nikolay Bordyuzha. “Our main trump card is political influence; its potential has been put to work to the full extent.”
