The OSCE mission bears no relation to Azerbaijan’s UN initiative. It is another mission, and has nothing in common with the UN, Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian said at today’s press conference.
According to him, the Co-Chairs will be accompanied by one UN representative. “All the details will become clear in the course of mediator’s visit to the region on Oct. 6,” Nalbandian added.
As NEWS.am reported earlier, the OSCE Field Assessment Mission will be conducted in Nagorno-Karabakh from October 4-14, 2010. In their statement, the OSCE MG Co-Chairs said that they had held separate meetings on September 23 in New York on the margins of the UN General Assembly session with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, and of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov.
The Co-Chairs informed both Ministers about the preparations for their upcoming Field Assessment Mission. The Co-Chairs will conduct the Mission from October 4-14, 2010, in the territories around Nagorno-Karabakh.
Following on their preliminary contacts with UN officials in Geneva and New York, the Co-Chairs formally invited UNDP and UNHCR experts to participate in the Mission.
Azerbaijani APA news agency reported that UNDP will not participate in the forthcoming Mission.
Earlier, Azerbaijani authorities stated that they had withdrawn UN General Assembly draft resolution on so-called “occupied territories” in return of Assessment Mission.
