YEREVAN. – When substantive negotiations start regarding the resolution of the Karabakh conflict, the pressure on Nagorno-Karabakh will increase.

Giro Manoyan, Head of the Political Affairs Bureau and the Armenian Cause Office of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party, stated the above-said at a press conference on Tuesday.

In his words, the joint statement, which the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan issued Monday in Saint Petersburg, Russia, attests to some arrangements.

“When the substantive talks already begin regarding the resolution of the matter, the pressure on Karabakh will increase,” said Manoyan. “It’s clear that the [Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group] co-chairs will want to somehow please Azerbaijan.” He added that this could be an agreement without agreeing on the basic principles. 

As per the ARF official, it is also possible that Azerbaijan could finally support the installment of mechanisms to investigate incidents along the Karabakh-Azerbaijan line of contact, but this would be a result of international pressure.

“That is, pressure is exerted rather on Azerbaijan now, but in the end it will be exerted on Karabakh,” concluded Giro Manoyan.
