If the bill on recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh is put to the vote in the Armenian Parliament, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) faction will vote for it, Vahan Hovhannisyan, the head of the ARF parliamentary faction stated in Parliament.

He stressed that the ARF was against parliamentary discussions of the bill before, waiting for consent of all the parliamentary forces. “It is not a document one can just vote against and go away. All the Parliament members must participate in the discussions and voting,” he said. Hovhannisyan stressed that the October 5 discussions of the bill are the result of the Armenian authorities’ uncompromising position. “Today’s discussions could have been avoided if the parliamentary majority and the authorities had agreed to put their signatures to the bill submitted by the Heritage Party and put it on the big agenda. Or they might have accepted the proposal made by the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and member of the ARF Executive Council Armen Rustamyan, who proposed adopting a declaration on the Armenia-Nagorno-Karabakh strategic alliance. But no, the authorities are only pushing their approaches forward,” Hovhannisyan said.

RA Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan welcomed Hovhannisyan’s proposal to sign the bill and put it on the agenda. On the other hand, he could not answer Hovhannisyan’s question concerning official Yerevan’s recognition of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
