The Turkish charge d’affaires has been summoned to the German Foreign Office in connection with the German delegation’s visa cancellation to the Incirlik airbase, the official spokeswoman for the German Foreign Office Sawsan Chebli stated at a briefing Friday, RIA Novosti reports.
“I can add that yesterday the MFA sought a meeting with the Turkish side at different levels. As a result, a talk was held with the [Turkish] charge d’affaires in the MFA building in Berlin, where we decisively pointed out to the fact that the Secretary of State can visit the Incirlik military base in Turkey. It was explained to the Turkish side that the visits of the military subdivisions have been accepted also between Germany and Turkey, which are NATO allies. We pointed out that we adhere to the plans of the visit,” Chebli said.
Responding to the question as to whether the situation has developed, she shook her head.
Earlier, the online version of Spiegel newspapre wrote that Turkey banned the delegation of German deputies headed by the State Secretary of the country’s Defense Ministry, Ralf Brauksiepe, to visit the Incirlik Air Base in southern Turk in connection with the adoption of the Armenian Genocide resolution by Bundestag on June 2.
