We met with Zara Petrosyan in one of Yerevan cafes. The director of KANTUS production has been working with young Armenian singers in the international festivals and contests. She made her contribution to 13 victories and over 30 prizes.
Zara Petrosyan is a guest of honor and jury member of many international song contests and festivals in Armenia, Moldova, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Malta, Macedonia and Belarus.
Armenian News-NEWS.am presents an interview with successful producer.

Eurovision has become more politicized. However, blaming others is wrong, as we also have used that platform for our interests.

Everyone who represented Armenia at Eurovision, were mostly worthy artists. Another thing is the song they have performed at the Eurovision. A lack of the taste and understanding of the format have often been obvious. There are already changes for the better, though.

Our artists do not aspire to have a producer. They think that having a music director is a waste of money. Producers themselves also do not rush to find artists. The experience shows that today this work in the long run is not justified.

Our artists do not yield in talent to the Western stars. However, a lot of money is invested in the Western artists, and they works with famous producers. We contact such producers, send them our works, they reply “Oh, this is cool," and then ask “What about your budget?” And everything ends on that.

Yes, I often change artists. As a rule, when artists achieve something, they relax afterwards. Laziness might come into force here, sometimes bad habits. One feels that there is no goal. While when there is no goals, there ends the creativity. And, I already lose my interest.

When I first started my work as a producer, I took artists to the competition at my own expenses. I would say then ‘God is on my side.’ “Wherever we arrived, we all received premiums, covered all the costs, and moved on. Our victories were supported by our hard work.

I have a small team, and I have been working with that team for many years. Armen Sargsyan, Tigran Ishkhanov, Arman Ordyan, Zaven Khachikyan, Hasmik Movsesyan, Avet Barseghyan, and Elite Harutyunyan - they are all talented and know their work.

Nobody have supported me, but I have raised the flag of Armenia worldwide. I stand for the culture of our country with dignity. My track records speak for themselves. I do it all on my own initiative, because I love what I do. I do not receive any assistance either from the state or any social structure, to an extent that I work at home or rent a premises.

Why did I start working more with children? Because I got tired of fighting with the market of low quality music, whereas one can go with children to any world of music - to rock and roll , jazz, rap, hip- hop .

If we compare our artists’ capacity for work and Russians’, the latter are still ahead. They are taught to work hard. Among our artists, I would point out Andre, Erica, Marbey, and Mika. They are artists, who have not lost respect for the stage.

I have three albums. There are songs that artists sing in Europe on Bulgarian and Finnish. I prepare for a series of concert tours with my junior program “Khagh u Par” (Play and Song). The interest towards my program has been manifested from the US, Canada, and Russia. By the end of this year I will again introduce the Armenian artists, both adults and children, in the international festivals and competitions. Wait for the new winners.

I plan organize a recital. The program has long been ready, and I am waiting for a possibility.
