Mr Huseynov (Azerbaijan) – The future of Europe is in its unification, in states getting closer to one another and in more transparency at the borders. However, the primary, fundamental condition if states are to get close is that they respect each other’s territorial integrity and the inviolability of their borders. If one Council of Europe member state demonstrably does not respect the above-mentioned supreme principle, do you agree that it is an open risk to the future of Europe? What resolute steps can the Committee of Ministers take to put an end to such an undesirable situation?

The President – Thank you. Would you like to answer that question, Mr Milošoski?

Mr. Milošoski – Thank you for your question, Mr Huseynov. First, I should like once again to underline that a peaceful settlement of the conflict will be based on a commitment entered into by both Armenia and Azerbaijan, following their accession to the Council of Europe. Close attention is being paid by the Committee of Ministers to the progress made on this issue under the auspices of the Minsk Group. I believe that both countries and governments should engage further so that they achieve concrete progress, even if it is modest. That will facilitate communication between the citizens of both countries to the benefit of the region.
