YEREVAN. – The Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict reflects directly also on my family.

Ambassador Mikhail Shvidkoy, the Russian president’s special representative on international and cultural cooperation, on Thursday noted the abovementioned in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.

“My daughter-in-law is half-Armenian, half-Azerbaijani,” explained Shvidkoy. “That’s why every time when [Armenian-Azerbaijani] collisions occur [in connection with the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict], they run through the heart of each member of our family.”

Shvidkoy added that the elite should take a break, and try to understand what happened and what could happen in connection with this conflict.

“My [respective] position is extremely simple,” he added. “No ideas, no territorial claims are worth anything at all against the blood of an Armenian and Azerbaijani child. All ideas are not worth a penny if they require blood.

“A compromise needs to be sought, since children are born, and they should not go to war. And my generation would certainly be a very bad generation if it were to leave the resolution to this conflict for the [next] generations.”
