YEREVAN. – Vice President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov on Thursday received the leaders of the Congress of Refugees from Azerbaijan SSR.

Sharmazanov underscored the guests’ visit to the parliament, and noted that the refugees’ problems in this region have emerged as a consequence of Azerbaijan’s genocidal and anti-Armenian policy.

Assessing the bloody cases that occurred in the region as a crime against mankind, the NA deputy speaker stressed that Azerbaijan’s “script” has not changed even after several decades.

“Slaughter of the civilians [of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) village] of Talish was of the same ‘handwriting’ as pogroms of the Armenians of [the Azerbaijani towns of] Sumgait and Baku’,” he noted.

The guests, for their part, presented Sharmazanov the objectives of their visit. Mariam Avagyan, coordinator of this organization, touched upon the problems facing about 660 thousand Armenian refugees from Azerbaijan SSR. In this context, she highlighted the importance of raising the Armenian refugees’ problems at international platforms, and spoke about the prospects for the return of the internally displaced.

At the end of the meeting, NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov expressed readiness for further cooperation with the leaders of the Congress of Refugees from the Azerbaijan SSR.
