The most suitable routes, which connect the East with Europe, pass through our region, and Armenia can become a small section of one of these routes, President Serzh Sargsyan told the Arabic Al Mayadeen TV.

In his words, products are transported from where it is safer, and from where political matters do not impede economic matters.

“We certainly want for Armenia to become a transit route; and not only do we want, but we carry out great work in this direction,” stressed the President. “Now, we are implementing the biggest economic project in the history of independent Armenia. We want to connect the south of Georgia with the north of Iran, via the North-South Highway [through Armenia].”

He added that if this project is put to use, the road travel time will be reduced by two times, and the goods from the East will very quickly reach the Black Sea ports.

“There is awareness in Armenia that coexistence regardless of religion is a condition for living well,” added the President of Armenia. “[Religious] extremism is always perilous to society.”
