Kadir Ozbek, Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Council of Judges and Public Prosecutors (Hakimler ve Savcılar Yuksek Kurulu, HSYK) of Turkey, as well as six Council members, has resigned.

Haberler reports that Ozbek invited a press conference to state that the Council has for a long time been a subject of pubic discussions. This August the Council terminated its activities. The Council member’s statements have not produced any results, so they decided to resign, Ozbek said.

Only Head of the Council Sadullah Ergin has actually retained his post. He is also Minister of Justice of Turkey. The Turkish mass media suppose the resignations are a message to the Turkish authorities or regular game.

At present, the Council has seven members. Under reformed constitution however, this number is to reach 22. Kadir Ozbek will remain Vice-Chairman for another month and a half.

The Justice and Development Party and the Supreme Council of Judges and Public Prosecutors have always had strained relations.
