Armenia considers cooperation with Slovenia in the context of relations with Europe, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at a join press conference with his Slovenian counterpart Danilo Turk.

According to him, issues related to bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as recent regional developments were discussed during the meeting with his Slovenian counterpart. “We also pointed out the issues related to bilateral cooperation within international agencies,” the Armenian President said. Serzh Sargsyan noted that there was no dynamics in the Armenian-Slovenian relations so far. “It is normal since both countries were focused on the solution of their domestic problems after gaining independence,” he added. Sargsyan also stressed that both countries’ leaders attach significance to continuation of further cooperation that is in the interests of Armenia and Slovenia.

The Armenian leader considers prospective cooperation in humanitarian field and the agreement on cooperation in science, education and culture will contribute to this. According to the President, collaboration in economics and trade is important as well. “In modern world economic cooperation plays crucial role and often is a basis for development of political cooperation,” he stated, adding that Armenia is impressed by Slovenia’s economic indicators. In this context, Serzh Sargsyan considers very important to implement Slovenian economic experience in Armenia and attract Slovenian investors. The President also pointed out agreement on relaxation of visa requirements for Armenian diplomatic passport holders. Earlier, the sides signed an agreement on abolition of double taxation and prevention of tax avoidance, as well as agreement on economic cooperation.

The Slovenian President is on an official visit to Armenia. An Armenian-Slovenian business forum is on the visit agenda as well. President Danilo Turk is being accompanied by 35 leading Slovenian businessmen. Today Danilo Turk and his spouse Barbara Miklic Turk laid a wreath at the memorial to the victims of the 1915 massacres of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey.
