Over 35,000 people were detained in Turkey on suspicion of complicity to the attempted coup, more than 11.500 of them having been released, Reuters reports, citing a high-ranking Turkish official.

According to the official, over 17,700 people have been set free, 5600 people still remaining under custody, RIA Novosti reports.

Earlier, the country’s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ stated that the Turkish authorities have arrested 16,000 people on suspicion of complicity to the attempted coup. The investigation is underway with regard to 6,000 detainees. The authorities are also clearing out the complicity of over 7600 people - now on the loose - to the uprising, Anadolu agency reports.

In the night of July 16, a group of rebels made a military coup attempt in Turkey. The main obstacle emerged in Istanbul and Ankara. According to the latest data, 246 Turkish citizens died, excluding the riots.  Over 2000 people suffered injuries. The riot was suppressed.
