YEREVAN. – The Government of Armenia will allocate funds from the state budget to the Ministry of Justice, to execute the judgment by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

According to the respective draft decision that was approved at Thursday’s Cabinet session, this allocation of funds is due to the need to carry out the obligations which Armenia has assumed before the Council of Europe.

Pursuant to the April 7 ECtHR decision on the case of Simonyan v. Armenia, the latter must pay Armenian drams equivalent to €18,255 to the plaintiff, within three months after the decision comes into force. The respective compensation payment deadline is October 7.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the full amount needs to be paid, starting from 2014, but at the same time complained saying that someone shall be held accountable for this situation.
