The cholera epidemic which took lives of thousands of people in Haiti has been caused by the UN, reads the document of the UN special rapporteur submitted to the Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon, reports the RIA Novosti, referring to the New York Times.
According to the data of the World Health Organization, the cholera epidemic that broke out in Haiti in 2010 reached about 700 thousand inhabitants , at least 8.4 thousand out of whom were killed . The local people consider the Nepalese soldiers , who were sent to the Caribbean island by the UN peacekeepers, are the source of the disease.
According to the source, the confidential report sent by the American lawyer Phillip Alston to Ban Ki-moon on August 8, explicitly confirms that the epidemic broke out in Haiti due to the actions undertaken by the United Nations. The periodical notes that Alston’s document is an independent expert report, and its findings can be rejected by the UN leadership. At the same time, this week, the Assistant to the Secretary-General Farhan Hake admitted the notion of "being involved in the initial outbreak of the epidemic," although the UN has denied any links with that disease.
