The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ visit to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) this year is not much different from a similar visit paid in 2005, the political expert Alexander Kananyan told reporters on October 13. He pointed out that the route is the same as in 2005.
“During the field mission the Co-Chairs were convinced the incumbent authorities proved unable to ensure the strategic settlement of the lands. On the other hand, they saw the liberated territories were exploited and occupied by the people attached to the land,” the expert said.
Both in Armenia and in Nagorno-Karabakh people are increasingly convinced that the present line of contact is the maximum concession to Azerbaijan. The negotiation process will last for years until the Armenian side changes it or its content.
“It is possible after new people come to power. If President Serzh Sargsyan remains in power for some years more, or the Opposition comes to power, with its views hardly different from those of the incumbent President, more such visits to Nagorno-Karabakh will take place,” Kananyan said. He pointed out that the OSCE MG Co-Chairs’ visit will not have any serious consequences.
