We should not change prime ministers like a handkerchief, but rather implement systemic changes that will ensure democracy and development in Armenia. 

Levon Zurabyan, deputy chairman of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) Party and head of the ANC National Assembly Faction, on Friday stated the above-said in Gyumri, as he introduced the ANC candidates’ list for the Gyumri Council of Elders.

“We need fine, principled, courageous people in leadership positions, who can fight for people’s rights, solve their problems in a most decisive way,” added Zurabyan.

At the end of Thursday’s Cabinet session, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan issued a statement informing that he is stepping down.

And during the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Board meeting later in the evening, President of Armenia and RPA Chairman Sargsyan announced that he has decided to nominate Karen Karapetyan as the next Prime Minister of Armenia.

Karapetyan is the former mayor of capital city Yerevan, and former general director of ArmRosGazprom natural gas company.
