YEREVAN. – Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union does not obstruct Armenian-Georgian relations.  

Maia Panjikidze, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, stated the above-said before the start of the international conference, entitled “Upcoming Challenges: NATO, from Wales to Warsaw and Beyond,” which is underway Monday in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.

In her words, that is Armenia’s choice.

“We [i.e. Georgia] respect that choice, just as Armenia respects ours, whereby we want to be a member in the European Union and NATO,” stressed Panjikidze. “We are neighbors; we have no other choice, our relations need to be good.”

She added that Georgia very often seeks to become a platform for the resolution of conflicts.

“We have our own conflicts, and you have yours,” said the Georgian ex-FM. “But Georgia is a neutral country in your conflict [i.e. the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Azerbaijan]. Hence, it can play a positive role in the establishment of stability in the region.”
