YEREVAN. – The changing of the Prime Minister of Armenia is linked to deeper and more serious problems than those that are voiced by the authorities, said Boris Navasardyan, President of Yerevan Press Club in the capital city, at a press conference on Friday.

In his words, the new PM, Karen Karapetyan, is a person who achieves positive results if he sets precepts before him and acts by them.

“First, the changing of the PM was linked to the difficult economic situation of Armenia,” stated Navasardyan. “A more efficient management is needed in the government. Karen Karapetyan has more apparent advantages in this regard.

“It’s not ruled out that he will be rewarded from Russia for strengthening his positions in Armenia.

“A new helm and a new face was needed that had not managed to be discredited. The new PM was a suitable candidate in this regard.

“It was indispensable to have a PM who will be able to more easily communicate with business entities. Karen Karapetyan will be able to work more effectively than [preceding PM] Hovik Abrahamyan, to fill the [state] budget.”

The Yerevan Press Club president noted that the changing of the Premier of Armenia was also a means to divert people’s attention in the run-up to the forthcoming elections.

“The attitudes towards the authorities will not change until the elections, but they will be calmer,” added Boris Navasardyan. “Thus, the tension reduced. It was a very well-thought-out step to buy time, too.”
