YEREVAN. – If the former and incumbent authorities were unable to manage the independence of Armenia, they are to blame, and not the idea of independence, governance expert Harutyun Movsisyan said at a press conference on Saturday.

He noted this when asked about the expectations from the new government, which newly appointed Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan will be forming soon.

In Movsisyan’s words, the Armenian government needs to push forward a real program for the development of the country, and not one that is based on table talk. 

The governance expert noted, however, that the political opposition of Armenia is no better than the incumbent authorities. As per Harutyun Movsisyan, the opposition is not developing any true policy, and is satisfied with just making nonbinding slogans.

“Independence has given opportunities to govern the country,” he added. “But if people with the mentality of a lottery ticket seller are at the ‘helm,’ they will not see these opportunities until the end.”

On September 21, Armenia will mark the 25th anniversary of its independence.
